On Swartz Day, we gathered to honor Aaron Swartz by watching a documentary and diving into his journey. Between scenes, we took breaks to discuss his impact and what it meant for us as students. Here’s a recap of what made the day inspiring.
Through this event, we aimed to not only remember Aaron but also to inspire ourselves to carry forward his legacy by staying curious, advocating for open knowledge, and using our skills to make a difference.
A total of 71 students joined us for Swartz Day, where we dove into Aaron Swartz’s journey, from his boundless curiosity as a child to his game-changing work on RSS and his advocacy for open-source culture. Through fun stories like the “Steam Engine Argument” and discussions on innovation, we reflected on how questioning norms drives progress. As we embark on our own B.Tech paths, Swartz Day reminded us that we have four years to make an impact in open-source—starting now, with small steps toward a bigger vision of shared knowledge and collaboration.
