In the second episode of #MVGRTalks, Phanindra took the stage to discuss how business is possible with open source software. He started with Linux, the most popular open source project in existence today. Several companies have been built upon the Linux kernel like Red Hat, Canonical, SUSE, etc. Various business models like 24/7 support, enterprise SLAs, training, etc were discussed.
After Linux, we then got to know about several Open Source companies and startups whose source code is publicly available. We discussed various versions of their software like self-hosted, cloud-hosted, and enterprise versions. At the end of the talk, the audience raised several thought-provoking questions. And a healthy conversation ensued about using and promoting free software in our college.
